Heal’s is a British institution, stocking furniture and accessories from only the best designers. And whilst that may not come cheap, we are currently in luck – their sale is still on and they’re offering up to 40% off until midnight on Sunday.
I visited the Tottenham Court Road store earlier this week to seek out the best bargains. See below for my favourite finds and a sneak peek at their gorgeous cafe.
How’s this for a statement piece? This gorgeous wing back chair has been reduced by 40% resulting in a saving of more than a £1000. Admittedly it’s still rather pricey at £2100 but just imagine curling up in it with a book and a glass of wine. You can’t put a price on bliss…well, you can, but a much lower one than you would have a couple of weeks ago. This was for the display model so if you intend to buy online you’re looking at paying a little more.
While the wing back chair may have turned my head, it was this Fritz Hansen lounge chair that captured my heart. It has a gorgeous button back and a foam-filled seat and comes in a choice of two colours. Again, this one would make more than a small dent in your pocket at £1,975 but if you’re looking for an investment piece and you want to save a few quid you can’t go far wrong with this. If you buy it before midnight on Sunday you’ll save £352 which you could spend on hiring people to mop your brow and fan you with fern leaves when you open your next bank statement.
If you’re looking for a slightly more affordable bargain, how about one of the Type 75 Anglepoise desk lamps? Classic retro design at its best for just £110.
Another fab find is these Bowler lamps, reduced from £130 to just £78. Rude not to, really.
There was also 15% off the very stylish Beat range by Tom Dixon.
And how about these fantastic throws? It’s one thing to fill your home with gorgeous furniture and lighting but these details create texture and soften your space. I always have a throw or two draped over my sofa for curling up in (and hiding the red odd wine stain…) Heal’s do a great range – just look at those colours! The deep pink one is my favourite and would pop beautifully against the slate grey paint in my living room.
They also do some lovely 200-400 thread count Egyptian cotton linens, which are always worth paying out for. They’re currently 20% off and start at just £16.
If you’re feeling flush, have a wander around the antiques department. They have some beautiful vintage rugs. Sadly these weren’t on sale – and I think I’d be rather optimistic to imagine I could afford one even if they were – but I couldn’t resist including them.
Another bargain that caught my eye was this clock. If you’re looking for statement style at an affordable price this is ideal. Just £112 but it looks so much more expensive and would really dominate a plain background and draw the eye as you entered a room.
Finally, an element of fun goes a long way in adding character to a home and I found it hard to resist these cute Thinkbox Lighboxes. They’re also in the sale at a very reasonable £52.
Now, if you know me, you’ll know that no post is complete without a mention of tea and cake. And Heal’s did not fail to deliver! After all that browsing I was pleased to find their little cafe for some much needed refreshment. It’s hidden up on the first floor so not many people are aware of it meaning you’re almost always guaranteed to find a seat. There are squishy sofas to collapse onto and a wide range of tea, cake, smoothies and meals to choose from. The space is really versatile; when I visited there were people eating alone, others working on their laptops and a few enjoying a glass of wine with friends. There’s even a little tucked away area which is a more intimate space, ideal for meetings or a bit of peace and quiet – something that’s almost impossible to come by in central London.
I hope this has been helpful in giving you some ideas if you’re currently in the process of decking out a new space or revamping your current one. You really can lose an hour or two in here and there’s so much to choose from. So grab your credit card and get moving. These bargains won’t be around for long!
